Hi
I’m Jane, Academic English Tutor, Writer, Poet and Lover of Literature.

I live in a small Devon village with my husband and eldest son. I enjoy reading, writing, gardening and walking.
I have worked in education for more than 25 years and have a BA in English and History from Exeter University – a degree that combined my love of writing and my fascination with the past. I also have a Master’s degree in Creative Writing. Until fairly recently, I worked in the Skills for Learning (SEND) department at The King’s School in Ottery St Mary, for eight years, specialising in English. I am also a freelance Editor working for Bonancia Young Writers.
For the past seven years I have been a part-time tutor. Now that I have left my job to concentrate on writing and studying, I have my own business offering academic tutoring in English. I have a passion for helping students achieve their goals. My teaching approach focuses on critical thinking, writing skills, analysing texts, language proficiency and improvement. I have received lots of positive feedback from parents including those with SEND children. Through differentiation and my excellent communication skills I have built confidence in the students I have taught enabling them to move forward in their lives.
If you are interested in tutoring please head over to my Tutoring page for more information and parent testimonials. One of my students wrote this below:

Jane tutored me through year 10 and 11 of school and helped me a lot going into more depth than the school teachers and explained everything perfectly which allowed me to understand and be more confident within the subject. I was also taught the correct way to revise and do work by myself, I am very thankful for how she helped me and got me through my exams. Sam Pugh
Creative writing is part of the English Language curriculum. As a blogger and published author I love to share my passion for English through teaching students. If you are interested in reading my blogs head to my Blog pages.
I have always written poetry and bits and pieces; however, my novel writing journey began several years ago while I was studying at university. A short story assignment turned into a chapter from my novel ‘Love, Life and Lemons’. This was the culmination of a seven-year project inspired by stories of long-lost relatives and the role of food in my family life. I’ve got four children, and I’m lucky that one of them is a really talented chef! My husband, Jason, is also a great cook. See the blurb below:
1927
The ancient lemon tree sits resplendent on a farm in |Italy. It holds the secrets of former kings and saints and has been protected through time by the Hugen-Toblers. The farming family’s future is in the balance when tragic events unfold and the tree is threatened. Corrado’s passion is cooking. When he leaves Italy for London, no one knows the unimaginable effect it will have on the tree and his family. In London, Margaret is trapped in a loveless marriage with an older man who has a dark secret. he constantly buys her shoes, but cannot make love to her.
Shifting between drab, grey England and vibrant, sunny Italy, Margaret and Corrado find themselves embarking on life changing journeys; little do they know how inconceivably important it will become when their lives collide and cultures clash.
A story of family, food, love and lemons. Can new love find a way through adversity and ultimately save the tree?
